Birnbaum scores major endorsement from progressive icon Zephyr Teachout
Underscoring his support from the progressive community, Dr. Ron Birnbaum, Navy veteran and Democratic Delegate, earned a strong endorsement in his AD 51 bid from progressive leader and recent House of Representatives candidate Zephyr Teachout.
In announcing her support for Ron, she released the following statement:
“Today, I offer my full support and endorsement of Dr. Ron Birnbaum for the California State Assembly. Ron has dedicated his career to providing access to care for the underserved in Los Angeles and will make single payer healthcare a reality in California. He has the integrity and the conviction to stand up to the corrupting influences of special interests in our legislative process. Ron believes, as I do, that education is a right and not a privilege. That everyone deserves access to quality healthcare and that we need to preserve our environment for the next generation. We need more public servants like Ron Birnbaum. I do not give my endorsement lightly so please help me elect Ron Birnbaum to the State Assembly.”
Zephyr Teachout, a former CEO of the campaign finance reform based Mayday PAC, has dedicated her political career to championing progressive values, most recently running on a reform platform for the United States House of Representatives in New York. As a tireless advocate for the environment, she also led the effort that ended fracking in New York State.
Ron identifies with Teachout’s message and activism and had this to say about her support:
“Zephyr Teachout is passionately committed to the progressive movement. She is dedicated to ensuring that our voices aren’t hijacked by special interests and that all our citizens are treated like human beings. I’m profoundly honored to have her endorsement.”
Ron Birnbaum is a physician, veteran, union-member, delegate to the California Democratic Party State Central Committee, and progressive political activist, as well as a husband and father. The bilingual son of immigrants from Argentina, Ron grew up in Toledo, OH. He graduated from Yale University with a degree in English and then from the University of California, San Francisco with a degree in medicine. After internship training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, he went on active duty as a general medical officer in the Navy. Ron is currently a physician at clinics throughout LA County and an AYSO youth soccer referee.
